The life of professional poker player Freddy Deeb is just as interesting as the life of other professional poker players. To some, his life might even be more interesting than the other poker players. Just like the others, Freddy Deeb learned poker at an early age but unlike them, his interest started from the fact that he was obliged to gamble in order to survive.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon on November 27, 1955, Freddy Deeb migrated to the United States when he was only nineteen years old. In 1975, he was trying to obtain a college degree from the Utah State University when a civil war occurred in Lebanon. Unfortunately, such occurrence resulted to his lost of communication with his parents, who at that time were shouldering his college expenses. He could not find a job at that time because he was only holding on to a student visa, which prevented him from finding work. This was the reason why he resorted to gambling. Although gambling was making him earn enough money to finish college, he still was not able to obtain a degree. This was because of the fact that he got hooked in gambling and decided to be a professional gambler instead. He did not finish his mechanical engineering course despite the fact that he was only twelve credits away.
The very first major accomplishment of Freddy Deeb in the world of professional poker transpired in 1996 at the 27th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP). He was the first prize winner of the US$5,000 Deuce to Seven Draw event, successfully beating such poker giants as Doyle Brunson, David Grey, Gabe Kaplan, and Mickey Appleman. The prize winnings of Freddy Deeb from this game were US$146,250.
The next major success of Freddy Deeb in WSOP occurred on June 29, 2007 when he won first prize at the US$50,000 H. O. R. S. E. event. The prize winnings he received were worth US$2,276,832. According to him, he appreciates his latest WSOP bracelet more than the first one because the poker professionals he defeated in the H. O. R. S. E. event were the toughest ones in the whole wide world.
Aside from the two WSOP bracelets of Freddy Deeb, he also earned a World Poker Tour title on October 1, 2005 wherein he received a million dollars as his prize money.
The latest participation of Freddy Deeb in the live poker tournament circuit transpired on January 24, 2008 when he became a participant of the No Limit Hold'em Championship game held during the World Poker Open of the World Poker Tour. He was the fourth placer and he successfully took home US$168,835.
Although Freddy Deeb did not finish college, he nonetheless made sure that he would have a successful life. However, he still dreams of going back to college in order to finish the college degree that he once abandoned.
